<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><i> A prayer and Reflection Coloring Journal</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hope, promises, faith, prayer, worship, trust, rest, identity... They are all included in this little, innovative coloring journal from Tyndale, part of the Living Expressions Collection.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With coloring books so "in," it's not easy to find one that has a bit more than just doodles and spaces to fill in - which really appealed to my creative bone.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Something that I really like about this book is that there is a bit of room for everything - you can decide whether to color or write, which makes this little book quite different from the typical coloring only versions.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There are a lot of pages with a prayer, a Bible verse and room for notes. However, </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I also found encouragement to identify the needs of those around me and to write a small prayer for them in blank pages. There is even some room to write down quotes and sayings that can inspire you. I particularly am fond of this, since it could be an opportunity to develop our own dialogue with God.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">One of my favorite things is that it is quite sturdy. It has a hardcover that will probably lengthen the time you can spend on it. The best is that you can actually color in it without needing to look for another extra something to have a good base. Many coloring books are so flimsy, that coloring in them is a hassle, rather than a process to enjoy. Also, it's kind of the perfect size; it fits in my purse easily and you can take it anywhere.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When it comes to design, I like to use different coloring techniques, like gradients. Some of the spaces in the drawings are a bit too small; I needed to have my sharpener with me all the time, to keep a sharp point. So, if you like to work with the side of the point or don't carry your sharpener, you will probably have to find a way around the doodle you want to color, or change your idea while you're at it. However, the quality of the content and the intricacy of the drawings are superior to most coloring books I've seen in grocery stores and even craft stores.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I could use this book as a prompt for a devotional time; in this sense, I can see it as a good gift for somebody who is starting to explore the blessing of spending time with God. I would definitely not use it instead of study or prayer time. </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Maybe it could also be a good tool for those who have been walking with God for a longer period of time, but need some encouragement or are going through some kind of challenge. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale Book Publishers, in exchange of an honest review. My opinion was not biased by this.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! Being able to enjoy the hope provided through the resurrection of Christ is one of the many blessing I'm thankful for!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">March is practically gone, and I have not made much progress on the 2015 BOM. Would it sound strange if I said that I sort of needed a break? I don't like leaving things unfinished, but it seemed that I was no longer enjoying the quilting process, and it was all getting too stressful, or like that homework that we never did on time because it was so horrible, and we ended up putting it off for as loooooooooong as possible... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, just a teeny tiny break...</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> I caved in! I just had to start working on a wall hanging that I had been thinking of making for a while...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLHD6sy2Qw8/VtJkaCMLuxI/AAAAAAAAEMc/LPv9snjP5mUB2lLOFeHE0cttyGF8A8PnA/s1600/12733524_568988269932658_4968513635979431660_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLHD6sy2Qw8/VtJkaCMLuxI/AAAAAAAAEMc/LPv9snjP5mUB2lLOFeHE0cttyGF8A8PnA/s400/12733524_568988269932658_4968513635979431660_n.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After staring at the bookcase and the available fabric, I went for the gorgeous blue collection I got some time ago on sale. When I saw it, I knew I wanted it; I had no idea what I was going to make with it, but I just had to get it... Yes, I have my weak moments, but after seeing the results, who wouldn't like to consider having one of these every once in a while? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The fabric waited patiently in the little bin for over three years, and when Elizabeth Hartman came up with her Preppy pattern, dots started to connect... You can find the link to this pattern on <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/" target="_blank">her page</a>. Unlike her, I sometimes get these weird ideas in my head, but I cannot make them happen. It seems that she has this fantastic ability to see something and transform it into something beautiful. I love her eye for color, use of pattern and "shredding" something visually and transforming it into a quilt block.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I also had another roll of fabrics, from Jinny Beyer, who teaches the 2015 Craftsy BOM. I never knew that I already had some of her fabric in my stash, but it all went beautifully with the other fabric! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ah! The joys of happy quilty coincidences!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Even an old friend came to play with the happy whales! I did not follow of all the instructions in Elizabeth's pattern - you know me, I seem to be unable to follow instructions to the T. Instead, I used <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2013/06/pieced-strip-blocks.html" target="_blank">paper-pieced strips using adding machine tape</a>. You can see my tutorial on this versatile technique <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2013/06/pieced-strip-blocks.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><i style="background-color: white;"><b>... or the joy of the quilting that takes time.</b></i></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">There is something about me that seems to touch everything I do - I like exploring, I seldom follow instructions and I have taught myself many things, quilting included. I say this not to boast, but just to emphasize how frustrated I can become with myself when things don't go as planned, because I skipped a step or because I didn't follow instructions more closely.</span></span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">The <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 Craftsy BOM</a> has driven me crazy! It has made me stop and go back to read again and again and to make sure I understand what is supposed to be done before I do anything - at all. </span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">(Please have in mind that this is the same person who put a stationary bike together without looking at the diagram... I w</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">onder about why I never hit the floor while biking away and watching TV...)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Lately, I feel like we're immersed in a world of instantaneous everything, and the world of quilting has not escaped that. Sure, it's really nice to have the latest gadget or the ready to make kit that will allow us to make a quilt in one day. This has its place. But part of th</span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">is </span><a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">BOM</a>'<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">s beauty is that it has made me slow down, take my time, look at the details and craft carefully.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All of a sudden, I think I'm starting to get a sort of revelation that implies understanding the art of quilting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Serious art takes time. Quilting takes time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Appliqued flowers - oh my! Did they take time! But I wouldn't call them art just yet. But maybe one day I will... Who knows!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm glad that I decided to take pictures of the progress of this appliqued blocks. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Without further ado, here are the little pieces of fabric making it to the fabric basket that will hold them for many years to come...</span><br />

<br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Something that I really enjoyed was the process... I believe I have said that already, but I may say it again. I think that sometimes we get in the rush of things and forget to stop to smell the flowers. After all the effort and starting from scratch, there is a lingering feeling of satisfaction. Yes, frustration peeked its head every now and then, but even that provides an opportunity to go ahead and learn even more.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">It seems like a dream when I look at the five blocks with the appliqued flowers and even some French knots - the first time I can ever make those look decent... So, all in all, the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 BOM</a> goes on and its challenges have pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me grow as a quilter and as a person. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><i><b>Now, let's go and take time enjoying the crafting process!</b></i></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">March already!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">And not in 2015... I must confess I'm taking a big break from the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 BOM</a>; it has been a fantastic learning experience, but I needed to get back to other style of quilting that would allow me to enjoy more the process, rather than just following instructions.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Please, don't get me wrong... As a self-taught quilter, I appreciate every learning opportunity, but I just don't want to end up hating this beautiful quilt.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">If you seen my Instagram or Facebook posts lately, you know that I've been working on two modern quilts and on an improvisational piece. I will soon be blogging about those creations. I must also confess that, without this <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 Craftsy BOM</a>, I would not have been able to follow other instructions. It almost as if I can feel how I've grown up in quilting... I know, it sounds silly, but there are technical aspects that I now understand and enjoy. Without this challenging process, I would never have got there...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">And to celebrate, I would like to share what feels like a HUGE celebration... Four beautiful paper-pieced flowers that are patiently waiting for a bit of TLC.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lh3Fe7GkkkI/Vq6P81WxZGI/AAAAAAAAEI4/HakPdPoeeBc/s1600/165.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lh3Fe7GkkkI/Vq6P81WxZGI/AAAAAAAAEI4/HakPdPoeeBc/s400/165.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Have a blessed week,</span><br />

Go Quilt!<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Finding words to start this post is proving a tad difficult. In short, today was not the best day. Unexpected and inaccurate things will hopefully become interesting obstacles that will be in the past soon.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So... When things fail... Go Quilt! Go make something! Go do something useful! Go and enjoy the blessings God has given you! Go and hug your husband! Go enjoy your family! Go and put yourself back together for you, for them and for your purpose!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You know how it goes... If life gives you lemons, make lemonade!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And in the midst of trying to find my way back to some kind of normalcy, I kept starting at the pile of scraps on my <strike>dining </strike>crafting table.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Somehow, my old friends, <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2014/01/scrappy-improv-blocks.html?showComment=1452099110856#c3531487681132068531" target="_blank">Scrappy Improv Blocks</a>, <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2014/04/cutting-corners-tips-for-extra-half.html?showComment=1397012051449#c1812840009310458118" target="_blank">Extra Half-Square Triangles</a> and Strip-pieced Blocks all made their appearance and, after about an hour or so of finding ways to fit each piece to each other, along with prayers that sometimes seemed to get stuck inside, a beautiful Improv piece had taken the uncertainty away and reminded me that, whatever happens, God is good.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bLBZ3AXnK8s/VtJkbIQSeyI/AAAAAAAAEMc/AKefhV0xVek/s1600/12798937_571700402994778_5332441535742889767_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bLBZ3AXnK8s/VtJkbIQSeyI/AAAAAAAAEMc/AKefhV0xVek/s400/12798937_571700402994778_5332441535742889767_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is my wish that you can enjoy the blessings that surround you and that your life be full of joy and hope.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another week has gone by so fast! I've kept up working a bit a time on my current quilting projects and doodles are piling up as well. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It all started as an alternative to FMQ practicing, and it has evolved to free forms, that combine feathers, lines, flowers, stipples and traditional quilting designs to random strokes inspired by things I see every day. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here is a family of paisleys that dance together and celebrate creative times!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Finally! The last block for the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 BOM</a> and a bit of a reminder for me to get this done! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Paper piecing has its sort of magic, with perfect matching seams and perfect points. The most intricate designs can be worked on little by little, and all of it accompanied by a sort of naughty feeling that characterizes the ripping of paper to reveal it all!</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">From organizing templates and scraps...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">(and trying to get a peek before even trying to put it all togehter...)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">... Foxglove took shape little by little.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I love how the color progression makes this block super bright! It just makes me feel like making hundreds of these in many color families!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hello everybody,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After my post last week, I was kind of taken by surprise to see how much things have gotten in the way of posting. I know, I know, life goes by... And I'm thankful for it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, instead of moping around and thinking of those days gone by, let's go and restart the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 BOM Adventure</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Let me tell you what a trip it has been! I think the color scheme is what caught me, but it's been a challenge to keep up with. No worries here... Actually, lots and lots of lessons - we can always get better, right? (I sure hope so!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, here you have it: Harlequin!</span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It always amazes me how exact any paper-pieced design is. This particular block had the challenge of completing "units" before sewing them together in a block. I love the effect that the different colors give. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">... and it seems ages since I last was in blogland - actually, it's been a bit over a month, but life continues and despite not being able to make it here, there has not been a dull moment in the Hill.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Surgeries, emergency trips and hospital stays have brought their challenges, but thank God, there is nothing that will come to us that we cannot deal with. And in the midst of all the ups and downs, beautiful creations have come along and made it to some gifts. Ongoing projects are still ongoing, just at a snail pace. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With all the adventures coming at once without warning, I found a new appreciation for a sketch pad. Doodling helped pass time, whether it is practicing FMQ designs, sketching patters that I hope to make into a quilt one day, or even paying homage to under-appreciated salads. I also learned about the connection between sketches and smiles. I delighted in finding something in common with a lovely, talented niece.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_u7UfA-nhoPPMgVL9UsTM81rtOZDZBEMFUNLoh4cxpZ-B5DFBUI9wXrivItIRAnvKYHSw8-m17y3uz0wcSU7WM_aK6DbIiIM_b3BqS7Y1yoh1GJtVH6s_4JxO2s0gEk5Q698VU6Kzo1w/s1600/Drawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_u7UfA-nhoPPMgVL9UsTM81rtOZDZBEMFUNLoh4cxpZ-B5DFBUI9wXrivItIRAnvKYHSw8-m17y3uz0wcSU7WM_aK6DbIiIM_b3BqS7Y1yoh1GJtVH6s_4JxO2s0gEk5Q698VU6Kzo1w/s400/Drawing.jpg" width="400" /></a><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And in one of those life downs, I just have to mention our experience with hospital food, particularly when it involved my father-in-law, who had a particularly hard time digesting the never-ending parade of carrot, broccoli and cauliflower side. I decided to leave a little reminder of his favorite food items, so that he didn't miss them when the tray was not at hand's reach. He always says that carrots are good, as long as they come in a cake... Seeing him smile when he saw the drawing was priceless; he even brought it back home! Something tells me, however, that he won't have it on display on his desk... </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some time during January, I was able to cut fabric for the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 Craftsy BOM</a> sashing. Well, it all started back in October, when it seemed that I was actually going to be able to keep up with Jinny Beyer, but the border print has been cut and patiently waiting for over two months now to get its frame. Today, this is where I'm at:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDHa9biK6iQ/Vq6QEPD2hhI/AAAAAAAAEKI/yABLtFlvBis/s1600/184.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DDHa9biK6iQ/Vq6QEPD2hhI/AAAAAAAAEKI/yABLtFlvBis/s400/184.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's definitely not a huge step ahead, but at least I'm a bit ahead. At some point, I shall find time to share the other beautiful paper-pieced flowers that will live in this gorgeous quilt.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some weeks ago, I shared about <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/12/a-runner-on-making.html" target="_blank">a runner on the making</a>. This is a very special quilt project for me, because Mr. Fuzz was involved in it and stayed close whenever I was working on it. I would like to think of it as a joint project. I decided on the pattern, based on a new book I got. He chose the main fabric and I got some solids to work around it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JmnHYYVnWyE/Vq6Jat6GOxI/AAAAAAAAEIg/wXnB4R7o7To/s1600/010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JmnHYYVnWyE/Vq6Jat6GOxI/AAAAAAAAEIg/wXnB4R7o7To/s400/010.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, today, that project is almost complete. I cut fabric for the binding and decided to use a scrap strip that was leftover from the blocks. I thought it would give a nice pop of color. I think it only took me about 30 minutes to cut, fold, iron and sew it. It's now draped over the ironing board. The final touch is missing; I'm debating on finishing the binding by hand or by machine.... One will let me go and work on other projects, while the other method will allow me to enjoy the process longer - such difficult decisions in a quilter's life! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I miss blogging and sharing; I miss creating constantly. Sometimes I miss curling on the couch with a good book. Interestingly enough, I feel that I am still enjoying life. I thank God for his blessings and the opportunity to live a new day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I hope you have a fantastic 2016, full of blessings!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">WIPs are slowly starting to get some attention here in The Hill (note I said SLOWLY...). Schedule changes have not been nice to my re-purposed dining room and projects are patiently waiting for some progress. Little by little (VERY little by little, things are advancing, and I hope to get some things ready soon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">These times, I guess I'm learning about resourcefulness with all the changes; and I know that more are coming our way! </span><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">In the meantime, I </span><strike style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">learned</strike><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"> remembered </span><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">a valuable lesson in sketching the hard way - whenever marking the area to work in, don't use a tool that cannot be taken away (a.k.a. use a pencil that can be erased afterwards!!!).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Well, playing along with life and thanking God for his blessings keeps Mr. Fuzz and I going. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Oh my! Where does time go?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I feel like I have some catching up to do. But after a sort of emergency trip back in October, things have just not been the same, so I have had to get creative and exercise my crafty bone in different ways. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Crayons, color pencils, markers and sketch books are all quite a bit easier to transport than a sewing machine, cutting mat, and all the itty bitty tools and what-nots that come with it. I do have a project that I may start taking with me, but I'm honestly missing being at the sewing machine and getting relaxed in its humming sound when little pieces of fabric come together and make something special.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, when we came back from that trip, Mr. Fuzz said that he would like to change something in the bedroom. And that something was including a sort of cover for the dresser... YAY!!! Quilt!!! :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I am always buying bundles or fabric leftovers when they are on sale, and I had Mr. Fuzz choose one of the bundles. I just felt sort of bad thinking of buying more fabric if I had neglected the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">2015 Craftsy BOM</a> already. Anyway, I got over that fast enough, and Mr. Fuzz chose the one I had in mind - it was one of those many happy coincidences that often live in our household...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Anyway, this is a modern quilt, and I am actually trying to follow instructions. However, after making nine blocks, I had this:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span id="goog_1200813665"></span><span id="goog_1200813666"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p_zkYx8l3zw/VklNK8-FjOI/AAAAAAAAD0Q/Epu8yRC08Uk/s1600/photo%2B1%2B%25285%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p_zkYx8l3zw/VklNK8-FjOI/AAAAAAAAD0Q/Epu8yRC08Uk/s400/photo%2B1%2B%25285%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And you know what we make with scraps, right? Mini blocks from all those <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2014/04/cutting-corners-tips-for-extra-half.html" target="_blank">extra half-square triangles</a> and scrappy units from itty bitty pieces of fabric. If you want to download instructions on how to make those units, you can <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2014/07/my-first-pattern.html" target="_blank">click here</a> to go to the link.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aL76p-0ySFM/VklNK3frniI/AAAAAAAAD0U/THQHu4TdXOQ/s1600/photo%2B2%2B%25285%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aL76p-0ySFM/VklNK3frniI/AAAAAAAAD0U/THQHu4TdXOQ/s400/photo%2B2%2B%25285%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Adding them together to larger pieces...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KnEuwdy_950/VklNK_yhfUI/AAAAAAAAD0c/3ZBNVIPXb8Y/s1600/photo%2B3%2B%25285%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KnEuwdy_950/VklNK_yhfUI/AAAAAAAAD0c/3ZBNVIPXb8Y/s400/photo%2B3%2B%25285%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">... and eventually forming large enough units to form a block.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y6gKcZs5i44/VklNLwFG4jI/AAAAAAAAD0k/ZTK4oxnDzNw/s1600/photo%2B4%2B%25284%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y6gKcZs5i44/VklNLwFG4jI/AAAAAAAAD0k/ZTK4oxnDzNw/s400/photo%2B4%2B%25284%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Although I'm following a pattern, this is my grain of salt in this happy, bright Fuzzy Quilt.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Well, what to do when life happens, blog gets semi-abandoned and crafty time flies away with stuff to do?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Get creative! Yes! Get creative and find how to be creative with what you are given. Portability is not that easy with a big quilt, but a sketchpad and pens, colors and markers are...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">And this is where The Hill will have some posts with not many words, but with lots of pictures that will hopefully be a testimony to getting creative with the time and resources we have... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Ladies and gentlemen, doodles and sketches are back! And I give you blue feathers:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some time ago, I posted about attending <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/07/my-first-quilt-show.html">my first Quilt Show</a>. Well, I was looking at the pictures, and I thought of sharing a bit more about it. One post is not enough to capture all the beauty and all the effect it had on me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The feeling I had while I was there was remarkable; goose bumps, smiles, awe, excitement all rolled into one big ball that left me all gooey and fuzzy inside, hehe. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, here is a bit about the quilting and FMQ... I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Of course, there were several quilting patterns that did not exactly stayed withing the piecing. The end result was gorgeous. For some reason, my eyes found the combination of curves and points really interesting. I particularly liked this sort of piecing and quilting pattern overlap. And what about the denser quilting that makes those curves pop! The chains and the Gypsy Kisses (or Pickle dishes) look amazing together and they pull your eyes in this sort of road maze - mesmerizing! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfDK6NuqB-I/VaFGQ-_O_AI/AAAAAAAADVE/gli3-hbgq1g/s1600/P1010060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfDK6NuqB-I/VaFGQ-_O_AI/AAAAAAAADVE/gli3-hbgq1g/s400/P1010060.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wanda Jones, Osage Jewels</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Unlike the previous quilt, the following one had quilting that stayed "inside the lines." With a different quilting motif in each area, the end result is no less impressive!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gD2dSiO64Ow/VaFGTYH7fxI/AAAAAAAADVo/4bPXj4MI0zA/s1600/P1010101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gD2dSiO64Ow/VaFGTYH7fxI/AAAAAAAADVo/4bPXj4MI0zA/s400/P1010101.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wanda Jones; Maker: Eve Murphi, Urban Pods by Sew Kind of Wonderful</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And just look at this beauty!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d3sDagA2LoI/VaFGVL8-ycI/AAAAAAAADWE/9arwPsaq2Ds/s1600/P1010112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d3sDagA2LoI/VaFGVL8-ycI/AAAAAAAADWE/9arwPsaq2Ds/s400/P1010112.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Clarice Jones, Victorian Lace - Love Flowers, Quilted by Cindy Thompson, Pattern: Jan Douglas.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Again, I go back to how much I enjoy the combination of curves and points, but the added element of complimentary colors here is fantastic! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A bit after, it was interesting to come across a modern, chevron quilt. I really liked the clean lines with the simple background. I was about to go on to the next quilt, when something caught my attention. Can you see it? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W0y4XdKhuTo/VaFGVGjwrfI/AAAAAAAADWM/S1qM-JEoLO0/s1600/P1010116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W0y4XdKhuTo/VaFGVGjwrfI/AAAAAAAADWM/S1qM-JEoLO0/s400/P1010116.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Gay Cooper, Rail Fence, Quilted by Wanda Jones<br />

</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I knew it was there, but it took me a bit to see what my head saw... Does that even make sense? Anyway,</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> the camera got it before I did - I promise! My first glimpse at this great idea was through the lense... Well, the LCD screen... :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It was the combination of those beautiful, more traditional quilted feathers in the negative space, combined with a more geometric quilted shapes on the pieced shapes that not only gave a different texture, but also worked as an extension of the chevrons, all the way to the edge of the quilt. That playful, sneaky contrasting thread!! What a neat idea!!</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And how about a combination of cathedral windows, square 9-patches and gorgeous, dense feathers?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It took every ounce of self-control in me to stay away and not touch it. I felt like running my fingers and following each thread, but I make the best effort and locked my hands behind me, so that they behaved! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lexi Wallace, Lexi's Dream, Quilted by Jan Dunaway.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Of course, I felt like running to my sewing machine after leaving the show, but alas! It's kind of difficult to do machine quilting on the go...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ha! Never underestimate the power of a spare piece of paper and a writing utensil at hand! I had to go pick up Mr. Fuzz Husband, and I doodled while I was waiting for him. And the conversation went kind of like this:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mr. Fuzz: "Oh! I see you went to the quilt show?"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Yiya: "Yes, I did!" (Big smile.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mr. Fuzz: "And that's what happened?" pointing at the paper in my hand.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Yiya: "Yes. I just had to start putting those ideas down on paper right away!"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mr. Fuzz: "Good! That means you had fun. Now, what are we having for dinner?"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Oh! The fantastic world of marriage and crafts!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Have a blessed weekend,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Well, I believe <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/07/sarahs-drawstring-bag.html">drawstring bags </a>are growing on me! It turns out that they are practically THE perfect gift wrapping that is so cute and functional that it won't be throw away! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">(Yes, I seriously and silently feel sad each time I see all that beautiful wrapping paper that ends up in the trash. My recycling bone awakens each time it happens, and some of it has even ended making up greeting cards and all sort of things of beauty and love - but that's the stuff for another blog post.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Time came for another gift, and yours truly had everything ready BUT a gift box/bag... I still sort of refuse really taking a good look at those, unless I will remake them into something else.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">So... Missy... A sweet, sweet lady that loves purple and bright colors... I took a peek at my fabric, chose the three below and went back to </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Crafty's </span><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=440213&U=921387&M=29190&urllink=" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag, with Kristin Link</a>.</div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I really liked the way it came together!</span><br />

<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And here is a close-up look at my cutting mat, with </span><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=440213&U=921387&M=29190&urllink=" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Kristin Link</a><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">'s instructions handy, to make sure I got things right. </span><br />

<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here is Missy's bag finished, right on that spot on the carpet, now more like a "spot of fame," hehe...</span></div>

<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, yes... It's a tad too big for nail polish, but she can use the bag for so many more things.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">(Mental note: Take time and write down the math to make smaller baggies and use in the future.)</span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I really like how bright that lining fabric looks next to the purple...</span></div>

<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And when you pull the drawstrings, it almost turns into a pretty flower!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We only have a week left in September, and I'm still trying to catch up with blogging about my <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" rel="nofollow">2015 Craftsy BOM blocks</a>! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm not really sure whether to start with saying that this block is actually the July block or with sharing that all of the blocks are finished now, and I actually completed the frames today!! YAY!! I can't wait to take lots and lots of pictures!! It's really exciting that my first traditional quilt, which is also my first BOM, is almost finished!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But now, I need to go back to July and share about the beautiful irises - it's amazing what can be turned into a quilt! So exciting!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Beginning with some <i>mise en place</i>... Everything ready to go, with seams marked in chalk, pieces stacked together, the middle stem already pieced... Everything just waiting to get sewn in the right place to live happily in the Iris block!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It took me a while to mark all the seams... Hehe... you can even see some chalk on the right side of the fabric! (I had them all stacked on top of each other, but you cannot tell in the final block, phew!)</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
</div>

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The moment of truth came... Y seams... <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/02/intersections-make-piecing.html" rel="nofollow">From corner to corner, or dot to dot or seam to seam... Stopping at the intersections... You know, intersections make the piecing!</a> :) </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And yes, I made a tiny design decision and changed the color of the petals. I wanted to show the range of color in the fabulous palette. I was liking every bit of it!</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, I started making my way along the Y seams; however, I was not very sure it was supposed to look like this,... </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_8AjevIE2wk/Vb7UdQM41cI/AAAAAAAADkE/k0f4nRA7ouQ/s1600/106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_8AjevIE2wk/Vb7UdQM41cI/AAAAAAAADkE/k0f4nRA7ouQ/s400/106.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">

<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">... but things looked better after pressing! Yay!! My first Y seam flower down!</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N_IYA1f4Uw0/Vb7UdfJ8ihI/AAAAAAAADkI/DtZLCKKwQDg/s1600/107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N_IYA1f4Uw0/Vb7UdfJ8ihI/AAAAAAAADkI/DtZLCKKwQDg/s400/107.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also made my mind and decided to give hand piecing a try. Not too bad, but I didn't like the way it looked after pressing; I ended up redoing that little triangle, but left my hand stitches there, just for mere romantic reasons... hehe!</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I actually enjoyed doing the Y-seams. I have heard about them, and I have seen people in blogs talking about how to avoid them and sew the Y in different ways, just to avoid it all together. </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I wouldn't mind doing some more of them; I thought the flowers ended up looking quite nicely! There are also some other Y seams in some of the other blocks, and welcoming this new skill was refreshing... A little challenge doesn't hurt much, huh?</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Throughout this quilt, I have put the pieces on the mat, just to take a peek at the finished block. This one was no exception - I got more and more excited each time I got to see things coming together.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sadly, I got so excited, that something didn't look quite right when I saw this:</span></div>

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I couldn't believe that I made such a silly mistake - placing the squares in the wrong order! </span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was about to undo the seams, when I thought of the easy way out, but what would also become a sort of Easter egg in the final quilt... something to look for and talk about when the quilt is done!</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And here is the official picture on the carpet, with the evening light coming through... </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, technically, I think there is this kind of understood agreement that posts have to be chronological - at least for those efforts that build up to a project, like my <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb">2015 BOM</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">in my </span><a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/09/what-did-you-do-on-weekend.html" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">previous post</a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">, there was a little about my advance on the appliqued flowers. And this post is about that moment in June when I first started tracing the flowers, the one in July when I started cutting the shapes, some heres and theres, up to today, when I'm blanket stitching around them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But, before I go on with more details, let's go back to the beginning.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, I started with the tracing on freezer paper.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f3oYiBx4s50/Vb7AKFEInjI/AAAAAAAADfI/0y2yaqqnaj0/s1600/092.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f3oYiBx4s50/Vb7AKFEInjI/AAAAAAAADfI/0y2yaqqnaj0/s400/092.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then, I thought I'd better mark each piece with its letter and fabric number.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JipmOa3SWeg/Vb7ANkjhL7I/AAAAAAAADfo/VBk9HcARf9M/s1600/93.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JipmOa3SWeg/Vb7ANkjhL7I/AAAAAAAADfo/VBk9HcARf9M/s400/93.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and... I didn't like it... lol</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I tried using the freezer paper, but in between the turning, preparing and... well, lack of experience with applique, I ended up going back with something that I've done before: fusible web.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IRkiFAB_gBE/Vb7AKTsM3JI/AAAAAAAADfQ/3pujtMjCkHE/s1600/094.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IRkiFAB_gBE/Vb7AKTsM3JI/AAAAAAAADfQ/3pujtMjCkHE/s400/094.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Of course, I had to retrace everything again, but I knew I was heading in the right direction. After all, this is the technique that I used for <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.mx/2015/01/terminal-bee.html">Terminal Bee</a> and it ended up looking quite well. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--snZVO6hBjM/U6uPVnUKaFI/AAAAAAAACdk/A5JUjAv4mgA/s1600/P1010004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--snZVO6hBjM/U6uPVnUKaFI/AAAAAAAACdk/A5JUjAv4mgA/s400/P1010004.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">After one or two TV episodes, this is all I had:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lH6cT331Mvg/Vb7AKYHdY6I/AAAAAAAADfM/eI7P0xSCHvU/s1600/095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lH6cT331Mvg/Vb7AKYHdY6I/AAAAAAAADfM/eI7P0xSCHvU/s320/095.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">... it eventually made it into baggies, just to make sure all the pieces stayed in their place.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rTxqZJnXtgk/Vb7ALcMInzI/AAAAAAAADfc/DDsV5aLaLN8/s1600/096.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rTxqZJnXtgk/Vb7ALcMInzI/AAAAAAAADfc/DDsV5aLaLN8/s400/096.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I liked when they were all like in the next picture; the beautiful fabric looks pretty also from the back.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qVbBg5Plr3E/Vb7AMLfLa8I/AAAAAAAADfg/3dGqd9g_csI/s1600/097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qVbBg5Plr3E/Vb7AMLfLa8I/AAAAAAAADfg/3dGqd9g_csI/s400/097.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I took them with me everywhere I went, so that I could work on them whenever possible. What I didn't like is the scissors... They are good scissors, but things go WAY slower with the smallies... Oh well! They work and they make really precise cuts.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aTesMH5krbM/Vb7AOXYMOJI/AAAAAAAADfw/JGWVgLhoi7g/s1600/098.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aTesMH5krbM/Vb7AOXYMOJI/AAAAAAAADfw/JGWVgLhoi7g/s400/098.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Finding a bit of time here and there, I was able to -eventually- get all the pieces done. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I post this, all of the pieces have made it to a block and I'm working on stitching around them. Now, whenever I need a break at home, I take five or ten minutes (yeah, right... about one hour!) and blanket stitch around a petal or two... or three... or four...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This part of making the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb">2015 Craftsy's BOM</a> is probably what got me more frustrated. I even voiced my five-minute breakdown, thinking that I had taken a really complicated challenge this time - one which does not allow me to bend rules and makes me stick to it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then, I had the five-minute picker-upper, thinking of all the lessons I've learned so far, and how my piecing has improved. I actually took a time to see all the blocks that I've finished so far. They are... well, different. It's obvious that the first one has a bunch of mistakes; I'll probably re-do it at the end, once I've finished all the blocks and know I have enough fabric to get a second one out of it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Go figure! From too much to "one more."</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Learning experiences are always there, waiting for us to take advantage of them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So far, I'm getting there bit by bit, and it's really exciting to be able to share it with all of you.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Today is Wednesday... let's see if these beauties can be finished by Sunday! In the meantime, be blessed!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Weather is starting to change, and I feel I'm finally making some progress in my quilting. I about decided to dedicate some time to it at least three times a week, so that things get going. And yes, this post will have to count as one of those three times this week.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I feel like there were two major things accomplished that feel like a huge advance in my quilting projects.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I think I don't actually realize that things wear and get old... After attempting to cut fabric twice unsuccessfully, I finally took a long, good look at my poor cutting mat... No wonder why things were not working! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XSCwuf7nPbg/VfTedVwOOyI/AAAAAAAADsw/FI9Drm26qo0/s1600/161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XSCwuf7nPbg/VfTedVwOOyI/AAAAAAAADsw/FI9Drm26qo0/s400/161.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I ended up turning the mat and using an indelible marker to mark 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... inches where I had 24, 23, 22... </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hey, I'm good for ingenuity that keeps me going without so much effort! </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It felt like I was cutting butter after doing this - I just can't believe I waited so long to get it done. I can just begin to imagine how far ahead it will let me go with fast and accurate cutting.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Another major step are these little guys. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VG7nxRiEjBs/VfTedbj9GlI/AAAAAAAADss/DBe7wDZG9TI/s1600/162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VG7nxRiEjBs/VfTedbj9GlI/AAAAAAAADss/DBe7wDZG9TI/s400/162.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The fusible web had been on the fabric for a while; Kathy came and visited about two weeks ago, and I finished cutting all the pieces. They are now anxiously waiting to get to their final destination in the gorgeous baskets... I hope!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, not a long post, but excited about going forward.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How did you go forward this weekend?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Stay blessed,</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yiya</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, who said things had to stay the same all the time?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When I first started my quilting adventures, I never thought I would be working on a year-long project with bunches of baskets! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb">2015 Craftsy BOM</a> has brought challenging opportunities to overcome and fall for this wonderful craft over and over again! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I look back at these five blocks, and smile as I remember the challenges of understanding a very basic skill - pattern reading. I think it was the beautiful fabric that got me involved, and it has been fantastic. I keep working bit by bit and some of these will get appliqued flowers very soon. I couldn't resist but snapping a quick pic to remember how they all look like together. Pieced handles, bias-cut handles, matching points... A smile comes out and I feel grateful for the opportunity of enjoying the creative process.</span></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xJ9FEi2t_yY/Vb7Ujx6rMsI/AAAAAAAADlA/Q6v60HHlzJw/s1600/114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xJ9FEi2t_yY/Vb7Ujx6rMsI/AAAAAAAADlA/Q6v60HHlzJw/s400/114.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I once said that I'd never quilt baskets - ha! Better watch out for next time I say I'll never quilt something - I may end up making a whole quilt of them...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Until next time... Have a blessed week!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, I know it's Monday and Monday is generally not the weekend... However, I think it's about time to post something that is up to date. So, even though this post will be a short one, I'm happy to share what my work table looked like two days ago:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0stivONu80/VdjQl8_RNoI/AAAAAAAADqk/7k1LjNUGBms/s1600/159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0stivONu80/VdjQl8_RNoI/AAAAAAAADqk/7k1LjNUGBms/s400/159.JPG" width="292" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yep, that's right... That's one of the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb">2015 Craftsy BOM</a> blocks and some of the applique is finished. I decided to use some of my embroidery thread, which I rarely use, good for embroidery (obviously), that I almost never make, in order to blanket stitch around the applique. I used some blue Isacord that I've used before for FMQ (<a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2013/01/adventures-in-fmq.html">click here</a> <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2013/07/adventures-in-fmq-continued.html">or here</a> to see the FMQ samples), and the embroidery thread will be for the leaves and stems. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was not looking for a color that stood out, but for something discrete, that would not take away from the piecing or the gorgeous fabric. I've found that the best way to audition a thread is just take a bit of it and put it on top of the fabric to get a fairly good idea of how it would look once finished. So, the darker thread made the cut! It's interesting how the olive green threads look blue-ish, gray-ish in the picture - maybe that's why I didn't like them for this project, in the first place... Interesting...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, you may also spot some colorful squares... Well, that is a side project I started working on. I'll post on it, and will blog about it, eventually...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the meantime, applique flowers get done little by little and I'll still keep trying to sneak in a post here and there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope you have a blessed week! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello everybody!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have been kind of all over the place lately. This week has been crazy so far, and I kept thinking of creative ways of finding a quiet moment that would actually help me forget the rush, rush, rush of work at least for a second... This week I traveled to another location for training related to work, which I really like doing, but it seems to make things crazier in the office for the time we come back. I know that only happens to me... Lol!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm just trying to get to the point with a good story -or a half-decent one- about how I was caught up in the frenzy and decided to make the most out of lunch, go to one of my favorite places, hook up to the internet and come to this little corner of the woods that keeps words flowing, with my fingers trying to play catch-up, and my brain suddenly forgetting about everything that was in there twenty minutes ago...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, let's get to business here and have a good laugh at my inadequate abilities to rescue pictures from a low battery camera... Remember the black pictures in <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/07/2015-bom-may-baskets.html" target="_blank">my previous BOM post</a>? Well, here they are!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GFyA0zRUJuk/Vb7DRskdh5I/AAAAAAAADgY/nj5QPhLVATQ/s1600/099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GFyA0zRUJuk/Vb7DRskdh5I/AAAAAAAADgY/nj5QPhLVATQ/s400/099.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">OK... wait a minute... August blocks in August? Really? Well, yes!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I spent a good time yesterday working on these beauties, and it was just fantastic!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">OK, I did take breaks, and made sure that things around the house were taken care of. However, Mr. Fuzz did most of the work; he said that he knew I needed quality time with my fabric - isn't he the most amazing fuzzband!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And, although I'm behind in posting other things I've been working on, I thought about jumping into August and share the beautiful paper-pieced flowers for the </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">Craftsy 2015 BOM, with Jinny Beyer</a>.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Quilfest 2015! Yay!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I waited and waited for about two years, and then it was a mere coincidence when a lady visiting the office mentioned that Dewey was opening doors to this gorgeous celebration of quilts. So, can you guess was there, no questions asked? Yep, you guessed it - ME! I could not let the chance of experiencing a quilt show for the first time!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here, let me take you along this incomparable experience of learning, discovery, adventure, awe and creative ideas tickling at 100 mph! :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was my first corner... A burst of color and quilts that seemed to belong to different eras, but somehow came together. It felt like a contradiction, but the craftsmanship and the attention to detail made them happy together.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hZH06atijko/VaFGPi-bwKI/AAAAAAAADU4/bOiEHW83QXo/s1600/P1010039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hZH06atijko/VaFGPi-bwKI/AAAAAAAADU4/bOiEHW83QXo/s400/P1010039.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There were quilts for all tastes - modern, 30's, appliqué, mod log cabins... You name it!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5Hg2HVCJzi4/VaFGV-n7TPI/AAAAAAAADWA/47NmyehTKco/s1600/P1010118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5Hg2HVCJzi4/VaFGV-n7TPI/AAAAAAAADWA/47NmyehTKco/s400/P1010118.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And there were corners that just made you smile. Like this little doll patiently waiting for loving arms to carry her, lending a sense of coziness and home to it all.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_BAFM8CZ-4/VaFGWSIT-4I/AAAAAAAADWI/ATG2Wh6_rp0/s1600/P1010119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_BAFM8CZ-4/VaFGWSIT-4I/AAAAAAAADWI/ATG2Wh6_rp0/s400/P1010119.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Wherever I turned, there were rows and rows of welcoming friends willing to share a bit of their hearts and hard work.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-53a64MTk-JA/VaFHaq9CNHI/AAAAAAAADZA/7GmsXTapn4I/s1600/P1010079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-53a64MTk-JA/VaFHaq9CNHI/AAAAAAAADZA/7GmsXTapn4I/s400/P1010079.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Take Cheryl, who welcomed me almost the minute I walked in and made me feel at home. It was almost as if we had been friends for years! In just a bit, we had walked around several quilts, and she had shared the story of how she and her sisters get together about 3 or 4 times a year for a sewing weekend. What a blessing! One of her sisters does not quilt; she saws. But they all came together one weekend to make a quilt for a family member. Cheryl prepared and cut almost all the fabric before, and they just poured their hearts in such a fantastic quilt.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Cheryl explained that she doesn't show her quilts, but that she lends hers, like some ladies belonging to the Jewel Quilt Guild, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">to complement the exhibit and give it all a more homey look. This is one of hers, and Cheryl is hiding behind.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rsizTCJX834/VaFGRip6_DI/AAAAAAAADVc/twOKJIilApE/s1600/P1010064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rsizTCJX834/VaFGRip6_DI/AAAAAAAADVc/twOKJIilApE/s400/P1010064.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It lay folded on a char in one of those happy corners. What a beautiful work! I thought those were the merriest pinwheels, and then Cheryl said that I could touch it, because that was hers... I almost jumped to the ceiling in joy!!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Her pinwheels were sewn to the quilt only by one side, so they had a "floppy" triangle. Cheryl mentioned that this is 3D quilting, and that the quilting pattern is called "long and short." Now you know what I want to try next! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And yes, that's my finger saying hi... lol</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKnDlWuaCjE/VaFGRhFVnqI/AAAAAAAADVM/gj4Lmoj5ToM/s1600/P1010065.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKnDlWuaCjE/VaFGRhFVnqI/AAAAAAAADVM/gj4Lmoj5ToM/s400/P1010065.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is another one of Cheryl's, "Fat Cat." She made sure to give me directions so that I could get to it and see one of her twelve banners she displays at home each month. Fat Cat is the official August mini.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lXYhKRQ2nD0/VaFGaZvmBwI/AAAAAAAADXE/HAqwJztmV2o/s1600/P1010172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lXYhKRQ2nD0/VaFGaZvmBwI/AAAAAAAADXE/HAqwJztmV2o/s400/P1010172.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Another sweet lady was Georgia, and this is one of hers. She said that she used cheater fabric, but the quilter treated the print as if it had ditches, so it was a nice optical illusion. If Georgia hadn't told me this was cheater fabric, I'd have decided that this was pieced!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFkWtthuMhU/VaFGdWvzbAI/AAAAAAAADX8/c21lxxbQLfM/s1600/P1010190.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFkWtthuMhU/VaFGdWvzbAI/AAAAAAAADX8/c21lxxbQLfM/s400/P1010190.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Did I tell you that Gloria was wearing the coolest shoes? They were pink, orange, yellow and lime green... I heard several comments on them. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I learned a lot. I mean - A LOT.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you have read my blog, you pretty much know everything I know about quilts, which means that all of my quilt knowledge has come from blogs, Craftsy and pictures. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I got the same feeling I've had at museums before. In my very first post, <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2012/11/it-aint-like-in-book_7.html" target="_blank">It ain't like in the book</a>, I shared my experience with Degas's ballerinas. I didn't like them, until I saw the real thing. This happened to me at Quiltfest; quite honestly, it was unexpected, but it was a good unexpected. Log cabins had been one of these designs that I had never paid much attention to. Triangles inside triangles was another one. But a vendor had this beauty in display, changing my thoughts forever...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nEbjKbg7Ww8/VaFGe37lCbI/AAAAAAAADYE/iVnYNdyB6b4/s1600/P1010193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nEbjKbg7Ww8/VaFGe37lCbI/AAAAAAAADYE/iVnYNdyB6b4/s400/P1010193.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">And how about some good hand stitching? </span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-scXaiDRaa1U/VaFGPgkfvqI/AAAAAAAADUs/KOTaCJhnMeU/s1600/P1010050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-scXaiDRaa1U/VaFGPgkfvqI/AAAAAAAADUs/KOTaCJhnMeU/s400/P1010050.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"Kansas Son" is the quilt above, made and tacked by Muriel Armstrong. And the picture below is from "Oriental Turning Twenty," by Sharon Payne and quilted by the Union Chapel Dorcas Society.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t70FmE3V3bI/VaFGPtd1zBI/AAAAAAAADUw/F5NyxHpXKz4/s1600/P1010042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t70FmE3V3bI/VaFGPtd1zBI/AAAAAAAADUw/F5NyxHpXKz4/s400/P1010042.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">I could not help walk to this happy and bright corner... It was a vendor's booth; I thought that it was really neat how the mini-sashing sort of outlined each shape and all the triangles and squares worked together perfectly!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I_eVyjNW0dk/VaFGeR6EM-I/AAAAAAAADYA/7Hdvrl7ctSc/s1600/P1010192.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I_eVyjNW0dk/VaFGeR6EM-I/AAAAAAAADYA/7Hdvrl7ctSc/s400/P1010192.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes! Color! Itty bitty squares as cornerstones and solid blocks... Great effect! Pat Osborn made "Bright and Bold" and Wanda Jones quilted it - by the way, I think that Wanda Jones is my new quilting hero! She quilted and made several of the quilts showed, and her work is amazing. Just take a peek at the mini labyrinths in each block - perfect for kiddos (and grown-ups) to have fun!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ATRU00eE0Vc/VaFHbloQG7I/AAAAAAAADY8/yI9E_uDTx5Y/s1600/P1010085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ATRU00eE0Vc/VaFHbloQG7I/AAAAAAAADY8/yI9E_uDTx5Y/s400/P1010085.JPG" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Sure! These are modern styles, but I made a HUGE discovery... I actually like traditional quilting, too. The next two quilts are just a token of this eye opening event. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">"Threads of time" was made by Merrie Keonig and quilted by Cindy Thompson. The cue card said that she made over 300 flying geese! And it is beautiful!</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zajLEUwydIY/VaFHbe9AaDI/AAAAAAAADY4/WObn_MufGCs/s1600/P1010077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zajLEUwydIY/VaFHbe9AaDI/AAAAAAAADY4/WObn_MufGCs/s400/P1010077.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">This was another more traditional quilt that made me smile... "Jewel," made by Gay Cooper and quilted by Wanda Jones. I really like how straight lines can make curves, almonds and circles appear out of nowhere. This is a technique I've kept my eyes on and I hope I'll make a similar quilt one day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_QUM9jmOdHA/VaFHbMYS0SI/AAAAAAAADY0/GQgEnbB6OUs/s1600/P1010062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_QUM9jmOdHA/VaFHbMYS0SI/AAAAAAAADY0/GQgEnbB6OUs/s400/P1010062.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And the following is probably the goofiest quilt I've ever seen! I probably looked like a silly lady laughing with herself... It is called Chicken Buffet, made by Shala Lunt and quilted by Sue Williams. I could not stop smiling and having a good time with this fantastic idea!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eOccCLO2bW0/VaFJasPEp3I/AAAAAAAADZc/da0n9Ai0RUo/s1600/P1010200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eOccCLO2bW0/VaFJasPEp3I/AAAAAAAADZc/da0n9Ai0RUo/s400/P1010200.JPG" width="302" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first thing I noticed was the different quilting motifs in each block; only then did I notice how the chicken thing worked! It made me smile wide! :D</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ta7NmLMGzBo/VaFGf_zTclI/AAAAAAAADYQ/EzxpnzjFUp8/s1600/P1010201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="385" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ta7NmLMGzBo/VaFGf_zTclI/AAAAAAAADYQ/EzxpnzjFUp8/s400/P1010201.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QW9yrdFbQRA/VaFGgGQQ6dI/AAAAAAAADYY/kcYTq8pc3Yk/s1600/P1010206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QW9yrdFbQRA/VaFGgGQQ6dI/AAAAAAAADYY/kcYTq8pc3Yk/s400/P1010206.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was drawn by this wall quilt; I was wondering how they managed to pull the fading color effect, so I came close to it and realized it's painted! It is called "It's Lonely in the Desert," and was made by Barbara Reynolds.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZSzqmGVvg0/VaFGZNiJ5nI/AAAAAAAADW8/YWqcM77YAs0/s1600/P1010149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="355" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZSzqmGVvg0/VaFGZNiJ5nI/AAAAAAAADW8/YWqcM77YAs0/s400/P1010149.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Oh man! Where next? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So many beautiful quilts with fantastic stories behind them! By no means is this everything at Quitfest 2015, but it definitely is a good starting point to share my super adventure at my first quilt show ever! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have so much more to share, but I'll probably dosify it over two or three more posts... Who knows! I just was thankful to have such a fantastic experience and I am thrilled to be able to share it here with all of you!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I know, I know, I know... We're in July already, and I'm just posting something about May! I'm sorry, I really am. I should be better with my posts, but I cannot go back in time and ask life to take it easier or slow down. This is probably the busiest time of the year at work, so I kept going back to my ex-dining room table and sewing, but I just couldn't make it all the way here.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Thank you for being so patient and staying around. You keep me encouraged, despite all the misshaps, ups and downs...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And talking about misshaps... I almost fainted when I found that half of my pics in the camera looked... BLACK!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After some tweaking, here is my picture of getting things ready for the first May basket...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RFbOuyEzROk/VYWV4Zjl89I/AAAAAAAADRs/3wBGytmFngg/s1600/077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RFbOuyEzROk/VYWV4Zjl89I/AAAAAAAADRs/3wBGytmFngg/s400/077.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And here are the handles... I promise! This picture doesn't have much tweaking, that's why it's grainy, instead of foggy.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zzNceBmhp0I/VYWV5QZM4kI/AAAAAAAADR0/SzIvpOeH3ac/s1600/078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zzNceBmhp0I/VYWV5QZM4kI/AAAAAAAADR0/SzIvpOeH3ac/s400/078.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well... iPad to the rescue! Not the same quality photos, but I cannot complain :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ahU5JPHpGF0/VYWV6DTsWRI/AAAAAAAADSE/Nl1-IPAcxcw/s1600/079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ahU5JPHpGF0/VYWV6DTsWRI/AAAAAAAADSE/Nl1-IPAcxcw/s400/079.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the first basket; I get all excited each time I see a matching seam! Remember, <a href="http://thewomanonthehill.blogspot.com/2015/02/intersections-make-piecing.html" target="_blank">intersections make the piecing</a>! :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WHSGlcTnfqg/VYWV6El1MNI/AAAAAAAADSA/pItr640A5do/s1600/080.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WHSGlcTnfqg/VYWV6El1MNI/AAAAAAAADSA/pItr640A5do/s400/080.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I kept celebrating each matching seam, despite the weird angles... </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSasV5fBvfQ/VYWV63G7MzI/AAAAAAAADSM/jQyLuJYRrZI/s1600/081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FSasV5fBvfQ/VYWV63G7MzI/AAAAAAAADSM/jQyLuJYRrZI/s400/081.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">And then, I also celebrated that I had a working camera in the iPad, but kept wondering about my camera... It turned out that a battery went bad, so it was all a matter of getting a new set of batteries - phew!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SxNtNcCoqy0/VYWV-JuJXCI/AAAAAAAADS8/0i9s0Tk2ut8/s1600/085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SxNtNcCoqy0/VYWV-JuJXCI/AAAAAAAADS8/0i9s0Tk2ut8/s400/085.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Little by little, the baskets started to take shape.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Wm3hq7e9JdE/VYWV8tHdr-I/AAAAAAAADSk/PdewKrbb57k/s1600/084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Wm3hq7e9JdE/VYWV8tHdr-I/AAAAAAAADSk/PdewKrbb57k/s400/084.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-56le5VW1o9E/VYWV70psLdI/AAAAAAAADSY/tbQVddFmK7Q/s1600/083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-56le5VW1o9E/VYWV70psLdI/AAAAAAAADSY/tbQVddFmK7Q/s400/083.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I have mentioned before, I decided to make this quilt to go beyond my comfort zone. This quilt has a lot of firsts, and a partial seam is one of those. I really like how different pieces come together nicely, and how we can "sew out of the box" to make the final composition work. If you want to make this quilt, try watching <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/2015-craftsy-block-of-the-month/4816?_ct=sbqii-sqjuweho-dum&_ctp=1&rceId=1421721884073~7385jjrb" target="_blank">Craftsy's 2015 BOM, a free class</a> that will make you learn a lot about accurate piecing - oh, did I say it's free?!?! :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The only thing missing at this point were the handles.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One was a bias-cut appliqué and one was paper-pieced.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here they are! May baskets starched and pressed, ready to go in the drawer of the waiting blocks... :)</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What do you do when you ordered a gift for your niece, who is about to go to college, you suddenly realize you're out of wrapping paper and the closest store is about 35 miles away? </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Make one! :) (</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Uhm, did I mention that she lives about 6 hours away and that my in-laws were leaving the next day to see her?) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes, that's where I was when I thought of using my stash to make a little something for her to use, and Crafty's </span><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=440213&U=921387&M=29190&urllink=" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag, with Kristin Link</a> <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">came to the rescue! </span></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F7bmFvLkG_o/VaFL5qSHzpI/AAAAAAAADbQ/LN1qto5bbwE/s1600/photo%2B1%2B%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F7bmFvLkG_o/VaFL5qSHzpI/AAAAAAAADbQ/LN1qto5bbwE/s400/photo%2B1%2B%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The class calls for two fat quarters, but I made Sarah's with one</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> fat quarter (the printed fabric) and yardage - I knew she would like these colors! You really can use any cut or yardage, or a combination of either; it is really easy to follow the instructions and the class materials.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I really won't share much about measurements or the process itself, so this will be a post with lots of pictures and not many words. I guess some may actually go like: "Phew, about time." lol</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, not just yet... But the lining was ready, and I really like how the topstitching makes a cute addition to the design, making sure everything is in place.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The same goes for the channels where the drawstring will be.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the bag with just one drawstring; Mr. Fuzzy's help was crucial in making this little fellow behave and go all around the bad, as it was supposed to... :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I think this is one of the cutest gift bags... Not really because I made it but because it had Sarah in mind since the beginning. Sarah wrote a sweet thank-you note; she mentioned that the gift was going to be very useful, but that she really loved the hand-made baggie that she can use and take to college with her. I don't really know what she'll think when she pulls the drawstrings to open or close the bag, but I know that every once in a while, she'll remember that we've got her back and that she is loved!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Why don't you try making one of these for your next gift? If I can make it, you can! :) Don't forget, it's ! </span><a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=440213&U=921387&M=29190&urllink=" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Crafty's FREE Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag, with Kristin Link</a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> :)</span><br />
